Cerro EMS gets the double: two NEW standards achieved

Posted on November 9th, 2015

At the heart of Cerro’s success is it’s continued strive for improvement in every aspect of its business. A reflection of this is their recent achievements in attaining these NEW standards in Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001) and Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (BS OHSAS 18001).

It has been quite a journey, which commenced back in 2014, the primary driver for which was to create a central point for information management in the health and safety and environmental aspects of the business. Along the journey they were able to ensure that all the legal obligations and areas where business processes could be optimised were examined and then were able to identify where improvements could be made. Driving these changes through means the business can now be confident that they are always operating with maximum integrity.

In May 2015 they had their initial BSI audit confirming that they were “qualification ready” with all the relevant robust systems in place to capture and handle all areas of the standards. This ensured that in September 2015 for their 2nd stage BSI audit they were more than ready to meet the rigorous requirements of both standards as evidenced by their assessor’s summary:

“Overall, the combined EMS and OHS system requirements are clearly defined, reviewed and monitored, with a focus clearly being given to continual improvement and ongoing compliance.”

For Cerro EMS, achieving these standards ensures continued safety of employees with a rigorous approach to creating and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment. The standards have also driven improved training and development for employees allowing them to advance their personal skillset and understanding. “The benefits haven’t just been internal”, says Mark Wynne, New Products Manager at Cerro EMS, “clients can now be confident in our environmental awareness and health and safety processes while carrying out any projects we may have, and an assured embedded approach of continuous improvement will guarantee this for the future.”
